Research Focus:population and individual measure of disease and health status, identification of at-risk populations, and the development and evaluation of clinical and population-based interventions.


Associate Director - Chris Lovato

Ph.D; Associate Professor, Health Care and Epidemiology, UBC

Research Focus: health promotion and preventive medicine, with a special interest in developing population-based interventions to reduce tobacco use, sun exposure and injuries among children and youth.



Ruth Eckstein Gruneau

Ph.D, RPsych; Clinical Associate Professor, Pediatrics, UBC; Psychologist, B.C.'s Children's Hospital

Research Focus: biobehavioural responses to pain/stress in infants; long term cognitive, academic and psycho-social functioning of very low birth weight and other medically high risk newborns.


Anton Miller

Research Focus:evaluation of strategies to reduce disability from hearing loss in infancy; evaluation of diagnostic and management strategies in attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder.



Tim Oberlander

MD, FRCPC; Assistant Professor, Pediatrics, UBC; Developmental Pediatrician, Sunny Hill Health Centre for Children

Research Focus: biobehavioural responses to pain/stress in infants; pain in children with significant neurologic impairment, long term outcome of low birth weight and critically ill newborns.



Maureen O'Donnell

MD, FRCPC; Assistant Professor, Pediatrics, UBC; Developmental Pediatrician, Sunny Hill Health Centre for Children

Research Focus: growth and nutritional needs in children with cerebral palsy; sleep disorders in children with major neurological impairment; treatment for spasticity in children; patterns of health care use among children and youth with disabilities.
